Issue: Drum not turning due to lint blockage.

Diagnosis:

The dryer drum has stopped rotating due to a lint blockage. A buildup of lint, dust, or other debris inside the dryer cabinet can interfere with drum movement and cause overheating. In this case, lint has likely accumulated in the blower wheel housing, preventing the blower wheel from spinning freely. Since the drive motor operates both the blower wheel and the belt that turns the drum, an obstructed blower wheel can stop the drum from turning entirely. The drive motor may hum but fail to start, or make excessive noise when running.

Repair Steps:

  1. Unplug the dryer before beginning any inspection or repair.
  2. Remove the blower cover and check inside for lint buildup or any small articles of clothing that may have been pulled past the lint screen and into the blower.
  3. Clear out all lint and debris from the blower wheel and housing.
  4. Inspect the blower wheel for damage; replace it if it is cracked or broken.
  5. Check the exhaust duct and venting system for additional blockages that could restrict airflow and cause overheating.
  6. Inspect the drive belt to confirm it is intact. If the drum spins very easily by hand, the belt may have broken as a secondary result of the blockage.
  7. Reassemble the dryer and test to confirm the drum rotates freely and the appliance operates normally.

Additional Notes:

If the drum still does not turn after clearing the lint blockage, further inspection of the drum rollers, idler pulley, and drive belt will be needed. Regularly cleaning the lint filter after every use and periodically checking the venting system can prevent future blockages and keep the dryer running efficiently.
